Families in La Victoria, a neighborhood in Turbaco, received medical consultations, vaccinations and medicines during a municipal health outreach event. The event provided care for different age groups and guidance on preventing dengue.
The event was coordinated by the Municipal Health Department with support from the Colombian Marine Corps. The care was provided before the start of November as part of the outreach events that bring services to the municipality’s neighborhoods.
Families of different ages received care
Services included consultations and screenings, which are checks to detect possible health problems. Vaccinations were available for all ages, and medicines were provided according to medical assessments.
Care included follow-up for pregnant women, children, older adults and people with chronic illnesses. In addition to services for families, the event included vaccinations for dogs and cats.
The Marine Corps distributed liquid and powdered Bienestarina nutritional supplements to vulnerable children. This nutritional support accompanied medical care and guidance for households in the neighborhood.
Residents learned how to prevent dengue
Talks covered eliminating breeding sites for the mosquito that transmits dengue. Measures explained included proper water storage and cleaning yards, drainage channels and containers.
Families also received guidance on the importance of seeking medical care for symptoms such as fever, headache, rash or general discomfort. Disease prevention and healthy habits were part of the event’s educational activities.
